Stretch Goal #2 and Art Sneak Peaks
10 months ago – Tue, Jun 10, 2025 at 02:47:19 AM

Hey everyone!

Thanks to your incredible support, we’ve officially hit Stretch Goal #2! That means we now have the budget to commission some brand new half-page illustrations to mark the transition between each major section of the journal. These will add even more visual magic to the world of Just Roll With It, and I can’t wait to share them with you as they come together.

I’ve also been experimenting with another visual element in the book: throughout the journal, there are scattered AI-generated images of towns, forests, and other scenic locations. I’m considering replacing some of these with beautiful, public domain paintings from museums—pieces that carry a bit more texture, mood, and soul. You’ll see an example of that approach below (and it is just an example—I will make sure it's much cleaner in the book should I decide to pursue this path) . I’d love to hear what you think!

Lastly, I’ve included a low-res preview of one of the new characters—the Monk—with more characters and art updates coming soon.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for making this possible. Your support is what’s bringing this project to life.

More soon,
Ari

Replacing AI Art with Public Domain Art:

Monk Character Draft:

Stretch Goal Update & Art Direction
10 months ago – Thu, Jun 05, 2025 at 05:50:51 AM

Hey adventurers,

I want to share an update about the stretch goals and artwork in Just Roll With It. As a first-time creator, this journey has been full of learning — and I’m doing my best to stay honest, focused, and flexible as the project moves forward.

In the original campaign description, I mentioned:
The stretch goals below represent features I hope to make available, either as enhancements or optional add-ons. I’ll only move forward with them if they’re feasible, aligned with the vision of the project, and don’t delay fulfillment. If anything changes, I’ll communicate that openly and promptly.

After diving deep into the logistics — including production, customs, taxes, fulfillment, and the realities of international shipping — I’ve made the decision to pivot the stretch goals to keep everything aligned with the core mission: delivering a beautiful, immersive journal on time, and without unnecessary complications.

Originally, some of the stretch goals included physical add-ons like merch or a quest deck, which would’ve been made available for purchase through BackerKit. But adding non-book items to the product lineup introduces significant complexity, especially when it comes to customs and shipping (particularly in the EU, where books are treated more favorably). Rather than risk delays, higher costs, or compromised focus, I’m choosing to keep things simple and make the journal itself even better.

From this point forward, all stretch goals will focus entirely on enhancing the book’s artwork. That means working to replace the AI-generated art with beautiful, human-made art. The journal includes over 100 unique art elements, so I’ll be using a mix of custom commissions, licensed art, and creative commons pieces — but the more money this raises, the more unique pieces I'll be able to commission. I’ll share updates soon showcasing new pieces and the artists involved.

Thanks again for your support and encouragement — and for giving me the space to make these decisions thoughtfully. I’m incredibly excited about the direction this is going, and can’t wait to share more of the evolving world of Just Roll With It with you.

All the best,
Ari

UK Games Expo Recap + First Stretch Goal Unlocked!
10 months ago – Sun, Jun 01, 2025 at 07:32:06 AM

Hey adventurers!

I just got back from an amazing weekend at the UK Games Expo, and wow, what an experience. I got to meet many of you in person, run some live playtests of Just Roll With It, and soak up a ton of helpful feedback. Whether you joined a play session or just came to say hi — thank you. It meant the world to see this project resonate with people face-to-face.

Now, for some exciting news: Our first stretch goal has officially been unlocked!

Thanks to your support, I’m already in conversation with several illustrators about upgrading some of the in-book art. The goal here is simple: to create a product people truly love — one that supports artists, aligns with strong ethical values, and stays true to the cohesive style and spirit of the journal.

That said, I want to be transparent. I’m making a good faith effort to ensure this is a product everyone can feel good about — one that’s cohesive, thoughtfully made, and ethically produced. I'm still working with a limited budget, and part of that means weighing all options carefully, including the possible use of AI-generated artwork for some assets. I can’t guarantee there will be zero AI art in the final product — but I can promise that every decision will be made intentionally, with the quality, integrity, and long-term vision of Just Roll With It at heart.

As always, I’m deeply grateful you’ve joined me on this quest. More updates, more art, and more stretch goals are on the horizon!

We're funded in under 24 hours!!
10 months ago – Wed, May 28, 2025 at 03:15:03 AM

I’ll keep this update short, as I don’t want to inundate you with too many thank-you posts. But seriously — thank you.

Because of your support, Just Roll With It is officially funded. We did it!!

Now, the journey continues. From here, I’ll be turning my focus to spreading the word—promoting the campaign across social media and other platforms to reach more adventurers who might benefit from this project.

We’re also setting our sights on some exciting stretch goals. First up: upgrading some of the journal’s art with high-quality, hand-drawn illustrations to really bring the world to life.

More on that soon. For now, just know how deeply grateful I am. Let’s keep this momentum rolling.

With appreciation,
Ari
